 Teaching 2.0 Characteristics

 

A.    Uses constructivist teaching methods

 

Has moved away from the "sage on the stage" lecture and test method toward engaging students in meaningful, authentic learning activities that use technologies that allow students to collaborate, communicate, and create meaning.

 

B.    Walks the walk and talks the talk

 

Uses the same processes and materials for personal learning and teaching that (s)he expects students to use. For example,

 

  • Actively blogs  on matters relating the class and professional development
  • Uses chat/instant messenging tools for office hours or other student communication
  • Uses a laptop for teaching and expects students to use them
  • Is familiar with a variety of teaching tools (e.g., SMART Boards, probeware, projectors, digital microscopes) and how to use them in instructional situations

 

C.    Understands searching, citing, and aggregating

 

Knows how to search effectively across a variety of general and specialized search tools, how to cite on-line and electronic resources, and how to aggregrate material into shared, easily accessible locations.
